Exploring Pantelleria

Although Cinque Denti looks like a cove caused by erosion of the sea, it is actually a 6km wide volcanic caldera. It is the youngest of the island’s two calderas being a measly 45,000 years old. To learn more about the island’s hot past visit the Smithsonian Institution’s Global Volcanism Program,
